Will my insurance rates go up if I file an insurance claim?

Car insurance companies don’t raise your rates simply because you were unlucky and the innocent victim of a car accident. If a reckless driver crashes into your car and its not your fault, your insurance company may not raise your rate in the state of Florida.  Of course if you were the cause of the accident, at fault, or received a ticket for the accident this is a different story.  We get asked quite frequently if filing an insurance claim in Florida automatically raises your rates, and the answer is “no.”

Note that certain behaviors are particularly aggravating when it comes to determining fault and the potential to raise your insurance rates. If you were driving recklessly or while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or injured someone severely, you may see the cancellation of your policy.
